SAFARI

Mondays Finish the Story – April 20th, 2015

Are you ready for another Mondays Finish the Story challenge? This is a flash fiction challenge where we provide you with a new photo each week, and the first sentence of a story.
Your challenge is to finish the story using 100-150 words, not including the sentence provided. Don’t forget to use the opening sentence…
Get creative and have fun finishing the story!

Today’s photo and opening line were inspired by fellow writer Phylor of Phylor’s Blog!

Please include the photo with your bit of flash and a link back to this post.

Finish the story begins with:
“They followed the buffaloes and their babies along the trail heading into the woods.”

 SAFARI

They followed the buffaloes and their babies along the trail heading into the woods as they had done so for the last two hours.

The cameras slung around her neck, pulled her tendons tight and taut as she tried to keep up with others in the group.  This was a wonderful start to their honeymoon Lilian moaned internally to herself.

When James had said they were going on a ‘sort of a safari’ she imagined something slightly more exotic and wonderful, a trip to Africa perhaps, nights under the stars, a roaring fire outside to keep away predators but she got - this.

James beckoned her to come nearer and watch the animals ahead of them, he pointed towards the trees in the distance, as he whispered ‘we’ll follow them into the woods and then stop for lunch.’

I hope there’s a glass wine or two included in the lunch muttered Lilian under her breath, stomping through the hard clumpy bristles of grass.

  10. Good story, Sally, with great description. I felt sorry for the new bride having to face the reality of tramping through grass following buffaloes. Let's hope she enjoys the lunch at least. Well done. :) --- Suzanne
